Use of this website

This website is run by Concord Mediation, the mediation practice of Irena Finnegan. It gives general information about mediation and the services we offer. That information is not legal advice or any other professional advice, and it is not a substitute for advice about your own situation.

We try to keep the website accurate and up to date, but we cannot promise that it is always complete or current. Using the website, or sending an enquiry, does not create a mediation agreement. Links to other websites are provided for convenience, and we are not responsible for their content.

Mediation terms

  • Mediation is voluntary. Everyone takes part by choice.
  • The mediator is impartial. I do not take sides, and I do not decide who is right.
  • The parties decide. Any agreement is made by the people involved, not by the mediator.
  • There is no guarantee of agreement. Mediation gives you the chance to find a way forward, but an outcome cannot be promised.
  • Either party can stop. Anyone can end the mediation at any time, and so can the mediator if it is no longer appropriate to continue.

Before mediation begins, everyone taking part signs an Agreement to Mediate. It sets out the specific terms of the mediation, including confidentiality and fees, and those terms apply alongside this page.

Professional disclosures

Irena Finnegan is a mediator. She is a Registered Member and Accredited Mediator of the Mediators' Institute of Ireland (MII), and holds an Advanced Diploma in Mediation from the Honourable Society of King's Inns.

Through Concord Mediation, Irena acts only as an impartial mediator. She does not provide legal advice or legal representation to any party. Her legal experience is part of her professional background, not a service offered through Concord Mediation.

Confidentiality

Mediation is generally confidential. What is said and shared in mediation is not disclosed outside it, subject to limited exceptions set out in law, including under the Mediation Act 2017. These exceptions are explained before mediation begins and are recorded in the Agreement to Mediate.

Anything you tell the mediator privately is not shared with the other party without your permission. How we handle personal information is explained in our Privacy Policy.

Fees

Fees are confirmed in writing before mediation begins, in the Agreement to Mediate. Fees are never dependent on the outcome of the mediation.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with any part of the service, please tell us. Our complaints procedure explains how to raise a concern and where to go if you are still not satisfied.

Privacy and safety

Read our Privacy Policy for how we collect and use personal information, and our Your safety page for how we make sure mediation is safe for everyone taking part.
